About Us

The Playbox, where play begins and learning is fun!

The Kennford Playbox is a rural pre-school entirely run by its parents for the benefit of the children attending. We are a registered charity. Unlike other early years settings, we are entirely run on a "not for profit" basis. This allows us to use all our income to benefit the children attending.

  • We cater for 2-4 year old children in a purpose-built pre-school. We make full use of a wide range of fantastic equipment and facilities including an interactive whiteboard, role play equipment, monkey music sessions and hatching chicks project
  • In 2015 we renovated our outside play area which now boasts a climbing wall, mud kitchen, sand house, water wall, bug hotel, sensory music, along with  a covered area and gardening areas; a climbing Galleon; soft play safety surface; musical AND SO MUCH MORE! The children get plenty of fresh air, whatever the weather!

  • The children help to prepare healthy snacks as part of the daily routine and cooking is a regular activity.

  • We are able to claim nursery education funding for all children attending the group from the term after they are three years of age (each child is able to access 15 hours)

  • Qualifying 2 year olds accessing 2gether funding from the term after they are two (ask to find out if your family circumstances fit the criteria).
  • Qualifying 3 and 4 year olds Early Years Funding for 30 hours.

Pre school setting

We recently celebrated our 40th anniversary, thanks to the dedication and support of our staff team, parent committee and local community.

We were very fortunate back in 2008 in having the help of The Kenn Parish Council in securing funding for our new purpose-built facility.

We have since justified their support by becoming an outstanding setting in both 2008, 2012 and 2019. We continually strive to improve our provision with a recently renovated  outside play area, library corner and  updated ICT equipment.
